SA: Murray mouth may close again

The Murray mouth is in danger of closing over again despite a $2 million dredging operationover summer.

A narrow channel cut through sandbars near Goolwa, south of Adelaide, is under threatdue to lack of flow down the Murray,

That's being blamed on upstream water use and the drought.

South Australian Environment Minister JOHN HILL says he'll get an urgent briefing aboutthe state of the river mouth and what can be done to alleviate the situation.

He'll also raise the issue of water flow at the next Murray Darling Basin ministerialcouncil meeting next month.

No significant water has flowed through the Murray mouth for 17 months.
