Indians tailored for loss to Twins: Wedge changes lineup, but Santana dominates. Sabathia goes distance.

Jul. 16--MINNEAPOLIS -- Like most managers whose teams are about to challenge Johan Santana, Eric Wedge made a special effort to tailor the Indians' lineup to generate maximum firepower against the Minnesota Twins' ace. So Ramon Vazquez (0-for-2 vs. Santana) replaced Jhonny Peralta (2-for-19) at shortstop, and Ben Broussard (4-for-15) remained in the lineup, even though it would mean a left-on-left matchup.

By the way, the Tribe lost 6-2 Saturday night at the Metrodome.

What Wedge neglected to do was tailor the defense so that ground balls would be caught and relays would be thrown accurately. Then again, how do you do that? The manager must play the cards he is dealt. So maybe the game …
