Fed: Business split over climate change
Some businesses plan to hire thousands more workers and invest billions of dollars
if emissions trading goes ahead.
Big businesses who oppose emissions trading have dominated the headlines with warnings
of job losses and plant closures .. but submissions made to a Senate enquiry show there's
two sides to the story .. and the business community is split.
Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas says it will employ two thousand more people and invest
six billion dollars if emissions trading goes ahead next year as planned.
Vestas says the delay in passing the ETS is another obstacle for investment and jobs.
Pacific Hydro strongly backs the scheme and has asked for it to start as soon as possible
.. saying it will boost investment in clean energy.
And petroleum giant Shell strongly backs emissions trading .. saying it will give industry
the certainty to invest in clean energy.
